Latest 100 Layer Cake Feature: Johnelle’s Bridal Shower

We’re featured on 100 Layer Cake again today for the bridal shower I had the extreme pleasure of designing and styling for my dear friend Johnelle Mancha recently. Not only is Johnelle my friend, she also happens to be an amazing interior designer and furniture revamping master! Naturally, Johnelle’s house is amazing and so when I knew I’d be designing and styling her shower I knew that was the perfect venue. Johnelle is less the frilly and pink bride and more the sophisticated palette one, so I knew I wanted to create a fun and stylish shower that focused on what she loves, instead of what a bridal shower typically looks like. Thankfully, fine foods and a love for France are what she loves (can you tell why we’re such good friends?!).

Her store Mignonne was the perfect place to pull from for amazing vintage rentals like the fun posters, rugs, doors, and chairs the rest of the decor was inspired from her and my collections of vintage French flea finds (Johnelle is a Francophile all the way) and highlighted by her love of fine foods.

This bridal shower was of course to honor Johnelle, the soon to be bride, but also as a bonding experience for the bridal party. Johnelle’s matron of honor Alice designed all of the paper products (don’t you wish we all had best friends that just so happen to also be professional graphic designers?!), Yesenia is a hair stylist who brought along her friend Nikol to spoil us further with doing all of our make-up. Nikol Elaine Artistry is such a talent (and sweetheart) HIRE her for your bridal make-up!!

Since Johnelle travels to France each year to scout for her shop (and is a fluent speaker) I knew that theme would play in her shower with the vintage treasures as well as with the food selection. I designed a charcuterie selection for all of us to nibble on, as well as a “Mancha Martini” bar, an olive tasting and absinthe favors! We also had an amazing torte we all devoured too. The sumptuous flowers were from an amazing floral designer with a shop just down the street from Johnelle’s.

The shower was so perfect for Johnelle (if I do say so myself), it had her favorite nibbles, and decor all surrounded by some of her favorite people! I’m so excited for this wedding and how much fun it will be to design and style it, and to be with all of these amazing ladies again! Delbarr Moradi was the perfect photographer to capture all of our fun that day and really felt like one of the bridal party by the end!

In Love With…

…this beautiful graphic by Mary Kate McDevitt “The State of Mint in Oregon.” I love the colors and design and of course that it’s about my home state (and has a Willamette Valley shout out no less!). One of my favorite past times is the smell of mint wafting from the fields in the summer. I cannot wait to get to experience that again so soon!

Vacation Palette

Today I’m finding myself inspired by anything vacation related, but I especially love these deeply saturated colors from a photo I took of an Italian beach. Seeing this palette in a wedding would be so cheerful, fun and happy!

Featured: Mexican Elopement On Ruffled Blog Today!

Our latest shoot was featured on the Ruffled Blog today, check it out here! I was lucky enough to work with Delbarr Moradi again, whose images captured my designs perfectly. I was inspired by Mexican scenery and how it varies so widely from dry and arid to lush and bright. I transitioned that adoration into the design of our shoot by using our farm tables (ready to be rented in the Bay Area now!) with their rich warm wood, antique spools, and a caramel colored hide and then juxtaposing it against the bright cigar boxes, patterned plates, peonies, ranunculus and vintage Mexican textiles.

Leigh of Crimson Horticulture Rarities designed the most gorgeous floral arrangements. One of my favorites was what she and our hair stylist, Yesenia, created in our bride’s hair. My inspiration was Frida Kahlo and modernizing her classic look.

The shoot was a blast and I was so lucky to work with such an amazing vendors, and in such an amazing location, Dona Tomas!

We hope you liked it as much as we loved designing and styling it!

Bridal Boudoir

What do you think about bridal boudoir photos? Would you do them? Obviously if you have a photographer as incredible as Elizabeth Messina you would probably be able to get over any embarrassment or discomfort you may have with the idea. I love the idea of classic and stylish styling like these that are incredibly intimate without even the slightest hint of raunch.

With pastels being so big this spring I have to say that mint is by far my favorite one. It’s cool and looks so good against a tan. I love that it can have either a simplistic modern feel, or a retro one. At the very least makes us crave a beach vacation!
